This Book is based on my life. I tell how I let my negative thinking saying and then doing defeat me. The things you think about you will be the way you live your life. I tell how I thought and the life I got because of the way I thought. A person that should have lived a positive life lived a defeated life. My attitude was always I can't do the things the Lord purposed me to do. I am not that kind of person. When you fail because you thought you couldn't what did you expect? You got what you expected. This book tells how used a massive heart attack that left me 70% disabled to turn my life around. Because of my mental disabilities, it should be impossible for me to write. With a patient persistent attitude, I showed that I can and will do the thing the Lord purposed me to do. Disabilities only have the power you give them.

"A mirror of our frightened, fallible selves at this very fraught moment in American history... WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? is the second work in the second cycle of plays by Mr Nelson that have quietly emerged as a sui generis triumph of civic theater... [They] inhabit the here and now with an unobtrusive thoroughness I've never encountered elsewhere in the theater." Ben Brantley, The New York Times "By exploring the underwater part of the iceberg whose visible tip is politics, [Nelson] is challenging the idea of what political theater can be." Jesse Green, New York Magazine "As close to a perfect illusion as theatre can get..." Max McGuinness, Financial Times "The quiet brilliance of Nelson's extraordinary project..." Linda Winer, Newsday "The effect is akin to eavesdropping on a private family conversation." Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter

Abstract: One of the most substantial social developments in the United States over the last half century has been the dramatic shift in the way individuals now experience marriage and parenthood. These demographic changes are important because marital and parental status, as well as the timing and order in which these family transitions are made, affect psychological well-being. Although the links between marriage, parenthood, and well-being are well-established, these research findings and the policies based on them implicitly assume that the associations between marriage, parenthood, and psychological well-being are universal and invariant, when in fact they are not. In this study I focus on one under explored set of factors - individuals' life course expectations - which may condition these associations. Although a large body of research and theory in developmental psychology emphasizes the importance of expectations in shaping identity development and consequently, well-being, sociological and demographic research on family status and mental health has, with a few exceptions, largely ignored this perspective. I integrate these two research traditions to develop and test a theoretical model which argues that the mental health effects of role acquisition or absence, and the timing and sequencing of role entry, likely depends on expectations for role acquisition, timing, and sequencing. Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY79) I find substantial variation in individuals' ability to meet their expectations for the occurrence, timing, and sequencing of marriage and parenthood. For the most part, recent increases in permanent singlehood, age at marriage, childlessness, age at first birth, and pre-marital childbearing were not expected. OLS regression on respondents' reported depressive symptoms at age 40 indicate that expectations for the occurrence, timing, and sequencing of marriage and parenthood generally moderate mental health outcomes associated with the transition into marriage and parenthood, producing significant variation not only in mental health outcomes but also in mental health differences across marital and parental status. The fact that most of the demographic changes in family formation were not expected indicates that for those at their forefront these changes resulted in a substantial degree of structural strain, leaving few in this cohort psychologically unaffected.

WATERSTONES BOOK OF THE YEAR 2013 'It's the most marvellous discovery for everyone who loves literature' Ian McEwan, BBC Radio 4 Colum McCann once called Stoner one of the great forgotten novels of the past century, but it seems it is forgotten no longer – in 2013 translations of Stoner began appearing on bestseller lists across Europe. Forty-eight years after its first, quiet publication in the US, Stoner is finally finding the wide and devoted readership it deserves. Have you read it yet? William Stoner enters the University of Missouri at nineteen to study agriculture. A seminar on English literature changes his life, and he never returns to work on his father's farm. Stoner becomes a teacher. He marries the wrong woman. His life is quiet, and after his death his colleagues remember him rarely. Yet with truthfulness, compassion and intense power, this novel uncovers a story of universal value. Stoner tells of the conflicts, defeats and victories of the human race that pass unrecorded by history, and reclaims the significance of an individual life. A reading experience like no other, itself a paean to the power of literature, it is a novel to be savoured.
